Lines of the Sea is a pen and ink study of three aged fisherman’s ropes, each marked by time, tension, and use. Though simple in subject, the ropes carry the weight of experience—every fray, twist, and fiber telling a story shaped by the sea.

The three ropes are presented together as quiet variations of a shared life. They suggest connection: between past and present, labor and survival, and the people who depended on them. Their differences in wear and form reflect individuality, while their common purpose unites them.

Through pen and ink, I focus on line as both technique and meaning. The repeated marks echo the rhythm of waves, the pull of tides, and the passage of time.

This piece is an exploration of endurance and history—how ordinary objects become records of human effort. In Lines of the Sea, the ropes are more than tools; they are traces of lives lived alongside the ocean, shaped by its constant motion.
