About
Michael Gallinger is a Canadian Artist and Graphic Designer who lives and works in Nova Scotia. Born in 1977 in a small city, Michael has been passionate about drawing and painting since his early childhood; nature and living beings permeate his universe. Inspired notably by Robert Bateman, Norman Rockwell, Andy Warhol, Andrew Wyeth, Franklin Booth, and Albrecht Durer, he pays particular attention to technique and details. His works are composed of several layers of hatching, allowing him to achieve a rendering close to engraving but always with a touch of modernity. A meticulous and delicate work that praises the passage of time, where each line or stroke acts as a countdown. His subjects are influenced by textures and the environment of the Canadian East Coast.
Artist Statement
I am a pen and ink artist exploring the textures and environments of the Canadian East Coast. My work focuses on the details that shape this landscape—rock, water, weathered structures, and coastal growth.
Using fountain pens, ink, and acrylic inks, I build images through line and layered mark-making. Texture is central to my process and reflects the character of the places I draw.
My work is rooted in close observation and an ongoing connection to the East Coast.
